How to Have an Intense Orgasm as a Man (Solo or With a Partner)

Maya Sterling |

To have an intense orgasm as a man, build arousal slowly, bring in more of your body than your shaft (balls, taint, nipples, prostate), and keep your attention on feeling instead of performing. Orgasm and ejaculation are separate events, so a bigger load isn't the same thing as a bigger orgasm.

A male orgasm is the peak of sexual arousal: a few seconds of pleasure and pulsing muscle contractions that usually, but not always, come with ejaculation. This guide is about how to have the best orgasm as a man, the kind you feel in your thighs, your ass and your chest, not just the tip of your cock.

The short version:

  • Go slower. Tease, back off, start again.
  • Edge once or twice. Get close, stop, build again.
  • Use more of your body. Balls, taint, nipples and the prostate.
  • Get out of your head. See the psychological side.
  • Add lube and a toy. A ring, a stroker or a prostate massager.

One honest note: no study has measured how to make an orgasm stronger. We label what research shows, what health organizations say and what men simply report.

What’s in this guide

What a male orgasm is, and why it isn't the same as ejaculation

Cleveland Clinic describes an orgasm as the height of sexual arousal, when your body releases the tension it's been building. It usually lasts a few seconds, and for people with a penis it usually comes with ejaculation, though you may or may not ejaculate.

Phase What you feel What's happening
Arousal You get hard and touch starts to feel electric Desire builds, over a few minutes or several hours
Plateau You're close and want to stay there Your balls draw up toward your body; your feet, face and hands may start to twitch
Orgasm A few seconds of peak pleasure The shortest phase: involuntary muscle contractions, usually with ejaculation
Resolution Spent, satisfied and often tired Most people with a penis need recovery time (the refractory period) before they can come again

Our summary of how Cleveland Clinic describes the sexual response cycle. Phases can be skipped or happen out of order, and that's normal.

Orgasm vs ejaculation

They usually arrive together, but they're two events. Orgasm is the feeling: the peak, the contractions, the rush. Ejaculation is the plumbing: muscles at the root of your penis contract and semen comes out. Your prostate, a walnut-size gland in front of your rectum, adds fluid to semen and helps push it out when you come.

You can have one without the other. A dry orgasm, where little or no semen comes out, usually isn't harmful, Mayo Clinic says. More in the dry orgasm section.

Bigger load vs bigger orgasm

Searching for "the best way to get a really big orgasm" mixes two wants: a stronger feeling and more cum. They don't always go together. A huge, shaking orgasm can come with a modest load, and the reverse.

The feeling is the part you can work on: arousal, how much of your body is involved, and where your head is. How much semen comes out varies from one time to the next, and it isn't a scorecard.

What makes one orgasm stronger than another

Most men already come. In a 2018 survey of more than 52,000 US adults (Archives of Sexual Behavior), 95% of straight men reported usually or always coming during sex, versus 65% of straight women. So the question isn't whether you get there. It's how good it feels when you do.

Nobody has tested whether any technique makes a man's orgasm stronger. Here's what men report helps, and how we know.

What to try Why men say it helps How we know
Slow build and teasing More arousal going in Men's reports
Edging The held-off orgasm lands harder International Society for Sexual Medicine: some people find it more intense
Balls, taint, nipples More of your body joins in Men's reports
Prostate play A deeper, fuller feeling Men's reports
Toys New sensations, free hands Men's reports
Knowing your PC muscles You can relax or squeeze on purpose Mayo Clinic on finding them; men's reports
Slow breathing, noise, movement Less clenching Men's reports only
Attention on sensation Less performing Sensate focus, an exercise sex therapists use
Not too much alcohol Too much makes coming harder Mayo Clinic

14 ways to make your orgasm more intense

Here's how to make a male orgasm more intense. You don't need all 14: pick three for tonight.

1. Take more time and build slowly

Most guys jerk off like they're late for a train. Spend five minutes on everything except the head of your cock, then stroke lighter and slower than you think you need. A long, simmering build is how a lot of men describe the jump to a full-body orgasm.

2. Edge once or twice

Get right to the brink, stop until the urge fades, then build again, once or twice. The International Society for Sexual Medicine says some people find this makes their orgasm more intense once it finally happens. Our edging guide goes step by step, and the Kink List covers edging as a kink.

3. Change your stroke

Your hand has habits. Break them.

  • Frenulum focus: slow thumb circles on the sensitive spot just under the head.
  • The twist: a loose, wet grip that corkscrews over the head on each upstroke.
  • Two hands: one on the shaft, one cupping or gently tugging your balls.
  • Speed play: slow, slow, slow, then ten fast strokes, then slow again.

4. Use more lube, and the right kind

Wet skin feels hotter, and you're less likely to get sore. Water-based lube such as JO H2O is safe with condoms and with every toy material. Silicone lube can harm silicone toys, so patch-test it first, and oil breaks down latex and soft toy materials. Browse the lube collection.

5. Bring in your balls and taint

Cup your balls, roll them, or tug them gently downward as you get close. Then press or circle your taint, the skin between your balls and your ass: that works on the prostate from outside, and a lot of men feel it deep inside. The Trinity 10x puts a vibrating pad right there.

6. Touch more than your cock

Nipples, inner thighs, your neck, your ass. For a lot of men, nipples get much more sensitive once they're turned on, and a pinch near the edge lights everything up. See our nipple orgasm guide and the Kink List entry on nipple play.

7. Try prostate play

Many men describe orgasms with prostate play as deeper and fuller, especially combined with stroking. It takes lube, patience and a little nerve. The prostate section walks you through it.

8. Add a toy

A new input is one of the quickest ways to a new kind of orgasm: a stroker, a vibrating ring, a prostate massager. The toys section has the safety rule for each.

9. Breathe slowly, and keep breathing

As they get close, plenty of men clench up and stop breathing. Instead, take long, slow breaths all the way through the peak, and keep them going instead of holding them. Lots of guys say it spreads the feeling past the cock.

10. Find your PC muscles

Your PC muscles are the ones you'd squeeze to stop peeing. Mayo Clinic's Kegel how-to: tighten for three seconds, relax for three, work up to 10 to 15 in a set, keep breathing, and don't do them while you pee. The point is awareness: as you get close you'll feel them clench, and you can relax them to stay on the edge or squeeze on purpose.

11. Relax into it

Tension can feel like intensity, but a lot of men find clenching shrinks the orgasm to a twitch. As you get close, let go of your jaw, shoulders, fists and stomach. Let your thighs fall open.

12. Make noise and move your hips

Moan, swear, say what you feel. Instead of lying still while your hand does the work, thrust into your fist or the toy, rock your hips, arch your back. Men who let their body move often say the orgasm moves with them.

13. Use fantasy and dirty talk

Arousal starts in your head. Let fantasies run without editing them, and say them out loud, alone or to a partner. Porn, erotica, memory: whatever gets you there. The Kink List covers dirty talk and fantasy sharing.

14. Go easy on the drinks, and change the setting

Too much alcohol can make orgasm harder to reach: Mayo Clinic lists it among the causes of taking a long time to come. Then change something: a new room, the morning, kneeling, grinding into a pillow.

Try it tonight: a 30-minute solo session

  1. Set up. Door locked, phone face down, towel, lube and any toy in reach.
  2. Warm up. Five minutes touching everything but your cock. Breathe slowly.
  3. Build. Lube up and stroke slowly, changing grip every couple of minutes.
  4. Edge. At about 8 out of 10, stop. Breathe until you drop to about 5.
  5. Add something new. Press your taint, switch on a toy, or circle a lubed finger around the outside of your ass.
  6. Edge again, then let go: keep breathing, stay loose, make noise, and don't rush the last 30 seconds.

The mental side: psychological tricks for a stronger orgasm

Looking for a "psychological trick to have a crazy orgasm"? There's no single trick, but your head is a big dial: anxiety, distraction and scorekeeping all compete with sensation. These are things men describe, not proven formulas.

  • Stop watching yourself. Am I hard enough, am I taking too long, is this good for them: that running commentary pulls attention from feeling. Mayo Clinic lists anxiety about performance among the psychological causes of taking a long time to come.
  • Try sensate focus. Sex therapists have used sensate focus, an exercise from Masters and Johnson, for decades: you take turns touching with no goal of orgasm, which shifts attention from performing to feeling.
  • Do a 60-second body scan. Before you start, lie still, breathe slowly and move your attention from your feet to your scalp.
  • Build anticipation. Plan the session in the morning, or text a partner what you want later.
  • Fantasize without guilt. A fantasy is arousal doing its job. You don't have to act on it.
  • Narrow your focus at the end. Put all your attention on one spot: the head, your taint, the pulse in your balls.

Prostate orgasms: how to find and enjoy your P-spot

Your prostate is a walnut-size gland just in front of your rectum, wrapped around the urethra. Cleveland Clinic describes it as sitting up toward your belly button, and a doctor can feel it with one gloved, lubed finger, which is also how prostate play starts. Anyone with a prostate can try this, whatever your gender.

Stroke while you play. In a US survey that the journal Sexual Medicine published in 2025, more than a third of men who had tried receptive anal sex said penetration alone could make them come, and about half said they also needed other stimulation at the same time.

  1. Start outside, turned on. Stroke for a while, then press and circle your taint with two fingers.
  2. Lube like you mean it. Your ass doesn't make its own lubrication, and Planned Parenthood warns that without lube, fingers and toys can really hurt and cause small tears.
  3. One finger, slowly. Trim your nails or wear a glove. Rest a lubed fingertip at the opening, wait for it to relax, then slide in.
  4. Curl toward your belly button. A finger's length or less inside, on the front wall, feel for a rounded, rubbery spot. Press with a slow come-hither curl. Pressure, not thrusting.
  5. Stroke at the same time, or let a partner's mouth do it.
  6. Graduate to a toy. Whatever goes in your ass must have a flared base or an outside handle, so it can't get lost inside. Shop prostate massagers or flared-base toys.

Cleveland Clinic's urologist puts it simply: prostate play during sex is fine, with plenty of lube, patience and a toy that can't get stuck. It's for pleasure, not a medical fix.

Stop for sharp, shooting pain. Still hurting 30 minutes later? Go to the ER. If a toy gets stuck, don't go digging for it: head to urgent care or the ER right away. And never go from ass to mouth or vagina without washing the finger or toy, or changing the condom.

Our anal orgasm guide has the full how-to, the best prostate massagers guide sorts the toys, and the Kink List covers prostate play. Want a partner to do the work? Try pegging.

1. Trinity 10x Vibrating Cock Ring: buzz on the taint

Trinity 10x Vibrating Silicone Cock Ring With Taint Stim

This silicone ring slips over your shaft and balls, and a pad sits right against your taint to send vibration through it while bumps inside the ball cups work your balls. That's buzz on your taint and texture on your balls, hands-free, while you stroke or fuck. An included wireless remote runs its 3 speeds and 7 patterns. Hand it over and let your partner decide when you squirm.

The inner ring measures 1.7 inches unstretched, and the whole thing is about 4.1 inches overall. Use water-based lube with it, and take it off within 30 minutes, or right away for pain, numbness or coldness. $59.95.

2. Playboy Come Hither Prostate Massager: the finger curl, built in

Playboy Come Hither Prostate Massager

This toy does the come-hither curl for you. Its plump, angled tip makes a beckoning motion on your prostate, and the shaft vibrates at the same time. The head has 10 come-hither motion speeds, the base has 10 vibration speeds and rhythms, and the remote reaches 25 feet.

The insertable part is 4 inches long and 1.07 inches in diameter, and the curved arm and ring handle sit outside your body. Silicone, USB rechargeable, and listed as waterproof for the bath or shower (no IP rating given). Go heavy on water-based lube. $99.95.

For partners: how to give a man a stronger orgasm

This part is for anyone, of any gender, who wants to know how to give a man the best orgasm.

Bring it up and agree on the plan

Out of bed, ask: "What's the best orgasm you've ever had, and why?" Then listen. Or both take the Kink Test (its couples match reveals only the yeses you have in common), or sort edging, toys and prostate play on a Yes No Maybe list.

  • Pick a stop word and a signal. A word like "red" ends everything at once; two taps on the arm works when a mouth is busy.
  • Agree what's on the table. Prostate play and toys only with his enthusiastic yes.
  • Decide who controls his orgasm. If you're edging him, is it your call or his?

Planned Parenthood describes consent as freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic and specific. Either of you can call a stop whenever you want, even mid-edge with a toy in.

A first session, step by step

  1. Set him up. On his back, lube and a towel in reach. His only job is to feel.
  2. Go everywhere but his cock. Neck, chest, nipples, inner thighs, for longer than feels necessary.
  3. Hands and mouth together. One hand on the shaft, your mouth on the head, the other hand on his balls.
  4. Find his taint. Press two fingers into it as he builds.
  5. Edge him. When he's close, stop and count to 20. Start again. Twice.
  6. Check in. "More or less?" keeps it hot and honest.
  7. Let him go. On the last build, change nothing. Keep the same rhythm through his orgasm unless he pulls away.

Ideas from gentle to intense

  • Gentle: a massage that ends in a hand job, or mutual masturbation so you can watch how he touches himself.
  • Warmer: edging him three times, nipple play, or vibrator play on his frenulum, balls and taint.
  • Hotter: orgasm control, with the Max 2 or the Trinity remote in your hand.
  • Intense: a finger or massager on his prostate while you suck him, or longer-term denial from our male chastity guide.

When it isn't working, and aftercare

Some nights the orgasm is small or doesn't come. That's normal. Slow down, switch to the way he touches himself, or stop and cuddle; pressure makes it worse. If it keeps happening, see the doctor section.

Afterward, the head of his cock may be too sensitive to touch. Get the towel and water, check any ring is off, wash anything that was in his ass, and stay close. Later, ask what hit hardest.

Multiple orgasms for men: what's real

Some men can have multiple orgasms, but it's rare, and not something every man can learn on demand. The International Society for Sexual Medicine notes that some men's recovery time is just a few minutes, that some men say they can have multiple orgasms, and that most of what we know comes from their own reports.

In a 2021 study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine of 122 men who said they could have multiple orgasms, about 4 in 5 (79.5%) had 2 to 4 in a session, with a pause and more stimulation between each, and most of them ejaculated every time. They had them more often with a partner than alone.

In a small 2025 study from New Zealand's University of Otago, 12 men who had multiple orgasms described very different experiences: most had at least some orgasms without ejaculating, several felt it well beyond their genitals, and the techniques they mentioned included toys, breath and focus, and deliberately squeezing the muscles you'd use to stop peeing. Neither study tells you how common it is.

With ejaculation Without ejaculating
What it is Two or more orgasms, each with cum Peaks with little or nothing coming out
What studies report 2021: most of 122 men had 2 to 4 2025: 10 of 12 men reported them
How to experiment Keep touching after the first, away from the head Edge close with PC squeezes and slow breathing

If a second orgasm doesn't show up, you've still had a long, hot session.

Dry orgasms and coming without ejaculating

Can a man orgasm without ejaculating? Yes. A dry orgasm is when you climax but little or no semen comes out. Some multi-orgasmic men have orgasms like this. For others it comes out of the blue: Mayo Clinic lists some medicines, diabetes, some nerve and hormone conditions, spinal cord injury, and prostate or bladder surgery among the causes. In retrograde ejaculation, semen goes into your bladder instead of out through your penis.

Mayo Clinic says a dry orgasm typically isn't harmful. If it keeps happening and you didn't mean it, mention it to your doctor: there may be a treatable condition behind it, and it matters if you're trying for a baby.

The refractory period after orgasm: why you can't go again right away

The refractory period is the recovery time after you come, when you can't orgasm again. Healthy Male, an Australian government-funded men's health organization, says it can last from a few minutes to many hours, tends to get longer with age, and nobody fully knows why it happens. There's no pill that reliably shortens it. Even researchers disagree on why: a 2013 review in BJU International called it a continuing topic of debate.

So use the gap. Your partner's turn with hands, mouth or a toy. Kissing and slow touch with no pressure. And if your body says done, it's done.

Trans and nonbinary readers

Everything here applies to any body with a penis or a prostate, whatever your gender. If you're on estrogen or anti-androgens, the hormone reference tables from San Francisco's Department of Public Health list fewer erections and lower desire, and ejaculate usually decreases too. So orgasm may feel different and come with little or no ejaculate, which, as the dry orgasm section explains, is real and usually harmless. Slower builds, toys and prostate play all still apply. For anything that hurts or worries you, find a trans-competent doctor.

When orgasm changes: what's normal and when to see a doctor

Losing an erection now and then is normal, and so is coming sooner than you'd like once in a while. These are worth a call, and a few mean go now.

Sign What to do Source
Coming sooner than you want during most sex See your doctor; it's common and treatable Mayo Clinic
Taking a very long time to come, or not being able to, and it bothers you See your doctor with your medicine list Mayo Clinic
Erection trouble that keeps coming back See your doctor; it can be an early warning of another health issue Mayo Clinic
Pain when you ejaculate, intense or more than once Book an appointment Cleveland Clinic
Blood in your semen Tell your doctor MedlinePlus, Mayo Clinic
Cock ring causing pain, numbness or coldness Take it off now ISSM
Cock ring stuck and swelling ER now; don't try to cut it off yourself ISSM
An erection that won't go down after 3 to 4 hours ER or 911 NHS
Sharp pain in anal play that doesn't ease in 30 minutes ER Cleveland Clinic
Heavy bleeding after anal play, or any blood an hour or more later See your doctor Cleveland Clinic

Mayo Clinic lists some antidepressants, antipsychotics, blood pressure medicines, water pills and antiseizure medicines among the causes of taking a long time to come. If your orgasms changed after starting a medicine, talk to your doctor. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

What research says about male orgasm

  • No technique has been tested. No study shows any technique makes a man's orgasm measurably stronger.
  • Most men come: 95% of straight men usually or always do (Archives of Sexual Behavior, 2018).
  • Toys are common: 44.8% of US men had used a vibrator (Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2009).
  • Anal orgasm often comes with help: of men who'd tried receptive anal sex, about half said they needed other stimulation going at the same time (Sexual Medicine, 2025).
  • Multiple orgasms vary: self-selected studies of 122 men (Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2021) and 12 men (University of Otago, 2025) describe very different patterns.

Male orgasm FAQ

How can a man make his orgasm more intense?

Build arousal slowly, edge once or twice, and bring in your balls, taint, nipples or prostate while keeping your attention on feeling instead of performing. Lube and slow breathing help many men too. No study has tested whether any of this makes orgasms stronger, so these are things men report, not proven results.

What's the best way to get a really big orgasm as a man?

A long build, edging and more of your body involved are what many men say bring the bigger, shaking, full-body kind. That's the feeling, and it's separate from the load: orgasm and ejaculation are separate events, and how much semen comes out varies. Work on the feeling: that's the part you control.

Is there a psychological trick to have a stronger orgasm?

The closest thing is moving attention from performing to feeling. Sex therapists use sensate focus, an exercise from Masters and Johnson where partners take turns touching with no goal of orgasm. Mayo Clinic lists performance anxiety among the causes of trouble coming, so dropping the scorekeeping matters.

Does edging make your orgasm stronger?

For some people, yes. The International Society for Sexual Medicine says some people find edging makes their orgasm more intense once it finally happens. It isn't proven, but it's easy to try: get close, stop until the urge fades, build again, once or twice.

Do Kegels make orgasms stronger?

No study shows that. What Kegels give you is awareness. Mayo Clinic's how-to: squeeze the muscles you'd use to stop peeing for three seconds, relax for three, up to 10 to 15 in a set. Knowing them lets you relax or squeeze on purpose as you get close.

What is a prostate orgasm, and how do you have one?

It's an orgasm from stimulating the prostate, the walnut-size gland in front of your rectum, through your taint or with a finger or toy inside. Use lots of lube, go slowly, press toward your belly button with a come-hither curl, and stroke at the same time. Any toy needs a flared base or an outside handle.

Can men have multiple orgasms?

Some can, but it's rare and not something every man can learn on demand. In a 2021 study of 122 men who could, about 4 in 5 had 2 to 4 in a session, with a pause between, and most ejaculated every time.

Can a man orgasm without ejaculating?

Yes. Orgasm and ejaculation are separate events, and Cleveland Clinic notes you may or may not ejaculate when you come. Some multi-orgasmic men have orgasms like this, and it can also come from some medicines, diabetes or prostate surgery; mention it to your doctor if it keeps happening and you didn't mean it.

What is a dry orgasm, and is it bad?

A dry orgasm is when you climax but little or no semen comes out. Mayo Clinic says it typically isn't harmful. Common causes include some medicines, diabetes and prostate surgery. See your doctor if it keeps happening without you meaning it, or if you're trying for a baby.

How long is the male refractory period, and can you shorten it?

From a few minutes to many hours, and it tends to get longer with age. Healthy Male, an Australian government-funded men's health organization, says nobody fully knows why it happens, and there's no pill that reliably shortens it. Use the gap for your partner instead.

How long should you keep a cock ring on?

Take it off within 30 minutes, the limit urology groups and makers give, and right away for pain, numbness or coldness. Skip solid metal rings. If a ring gets stuck and you're swelling, get to the ER now. Our best cock rings guide has more.

Why are my orgasms weak, or weaker than they used to be?

Often it's ordinary: rushing, low arousal, tiredness or the same routine every time. Too much alcohol and some medicines can make orgasm harder to reach, Mayo Clinic says. If the change is sudden or keeps happening, see your doctor, and never stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Why does it hurt when I ejaculate?

Infections, including STIs and urinary tract infections, and an inflamed prostate are among the common causes, Cleveland Clinic says, and those are treatable. Coming should never hurt, so if it does more than once, or the pain is intense, see a doctor. Don't try to push through it.

Is blood in semen serious?

Usually not, and it often clears on its own, but get it checked. MedlinePlus says always tell your doctor, and Mayo Clinic says to call promptly if it lasts more than 3 to 4 weeks, keeps coming back, or comes with pain when you pee or ejaculate.

How do I give a man the best orgasm?

Ask what he likes, then tease: everything but his cock first, then slow, wet strokes with your hands and mouth together. Press his taint as he builds, edge him once or twice, and keep the same rhythm when he comes. Agree on a stop word, and save prostate play for when he asks.

The bottom line

The most intense male orgasm isn't a secret move. What men describe is a slower build, more of the body, a quieter head, and the nerve to try something new: a grip, an edge, a finger, a toy. Pick three ideas this week and notice which one changes the feeling most.
