A dildo is the simplest sex toy there is: no motor, no app, no charging cable — just shape, size and material. Which is exactly why choosing one is harder than it looks, because those are the three things most listings describe worst. “Realistic” without a measurement. “Premium” without a material.
This guide ranks our ten best dildos, one winner per job — overall, beginner, budget realistic, G-spot, anal, strap-on, fantasy, big, vibrating and glass — with the manufacturer's real measurements, materials named plainly, and a sizing section that starts with an actual number. Every pick is body-safe and was in stock the day this guide went live; the rest of the shelf is in our dildos collection.

How we chose
House rules, unchanged. Body-safe only: platinum or body-safe silicone, stainless steel and borosilicate glass — non-porous materials that clean completely. Nothing porous goes inside you on our recommendation, which rules out a lot of what's sold online. Real numbers only: every length, width and weight below is the manufacturer's spec, not our estimate, and where a spec isn't published, we say so instead of guessing. A base you can trust: every pick has a flared base, a suction cup or a rigid handle — the features that keep a dildo where it belongs and, on most of them, let it ride in a harness. One job each: ten slots, ten different reasons to buy, so this page works whether you're shopping for your first dildo or your fifth.
Dildo materials: what's safe and what isn't
The material decides whether a dildo is a long-term companion or a hygiene problem with a shelf life. Silicone is the standard: non-porous, warm to the touch, flexible and, in platinum-cured form, boilable — nine of our ten picks are silicone or have a silicone end. Dual-density silicone pours a firmer core under a softer outer layer, which is how a dildo gets the “firm inside, give on the surface” feel of skin; VixSkin is Vixen Creations' version, and it's what our top pick is made of. Stainless steel (pick 4) and borosilicate glass (pick 10) are the firm end of the spectrum: completely non-porous, made for temperature play, with steel bringing weight and glass bringing a slick glide for less money.
What we skip: TPE, TPR, PVC and “jelly.” They're soft and cheap, but porous — they can hold on to bacteria however carefully you wash them, and some soft plastics have contained phthalates. If a listing won't name its material, that's usually your answer.

The 10 best dildos of 2026
1. Mustang VixSkin — best dildo overall & best realistic dildo
If you buy one dildo, buy the one that does every job well. The Mustang is a realistic 7-incher with 6.5 inches insertable and a slim 1.6 inches at its widest — close to average erect girth, which makes it easy to take on day one and still worth reaching for a year later. The feel is VixSkin, Vixen Creations' dual-density platinum silicone: a soft, plush outer layer over a firm, flexible core, with a realistic head and raised veins along the shaft.
The base does three jobs: it stands flat on its own, it fits a harness, and it carries a suction cup for hands-free play on tile or glass. It's built to last, too — non-porous, boilable for three minutes, dishwasher-safe, and covered by Vixen's lifetime warranty. Water-based lube only. $121.95–$135.95, depending on color.
2. Temptasia Bellatrix — best dildo for beginners
The best first dildo is small, curved, body-safe and cheap enough that “let's see” is a reasonable plan. Bellatrix is all four: 5.5 inches insertable, 1.5 inches at its widest, and a gentle curve that steers pressure toward the G-spot or the prostate, in platinum-cured silicone you can boil. There's no motor to learn — the curve does the work — and the suction base sticks to a smooth surface for hands-free play or slots into an O-ring harness when you'd rather share it. At $23.95, it's the least expensive pick in this guide and one of the most versatile.
Want the VixSkin feel at starter size? The Tex VixSkin is Vixen's smallest suction-cup model — 5.25 inches long, 1.5 inches wide, lifetime warranty — at $127.95.
3. Colours Dual Density 8" — best budget realistic dildo
Dual-density used to be a luxury feature. The Colours 8 Inch brings it in at $66.95: a firm inner core for body and control, a softer outer layer with real give, and platinum-grade, body-safe silicone throughout. Its spec sheet gives 8 inches of insertable length and no width, so we won't invent one; either way, this is the step up when you want more depth than the Mustang without paying VixSkin prices.
The suction-cup base mounts it to most flat, smooth surfaces for hands-free play, and it's harness compatible for partnered play.

4. njoy Pure Wand — best G-spot dildo & best steel dildo
Some dildos are about fullness. The Pure Wand is about aim. It's an 8-inch curve of hand-polished, 316 surgical-grade stainless steel with a different-sized bulb at each end — 1 inch and 1.5 inches — and about a pound and a half of weight behind it. Angle it in and the curve plus the weight deliver firm, steady pressure right where the G-spot (or the prostate) lives, with very little effort from your wrist. If squirting is on your list, sustained G-spot pressure like this is the usual route.
Steel's other talents: it takes any lube, it warms or cools in a bowl of water for temperature play, and it cleans completely. $142.95, and the most durable thing in this guide. Want two ends with two different jobs? The njoy Fun Wand pairs a smooth G-spot end with graduated balls for anal or P-spot play, in a lighter 12 ounces of steel, at $104.95.
5. King Cobra — best anal dildo
For anal, shape matters more than size — and this shape is right. The King Cobra opens with a tapered head just 1.3 inches across and builds gradually to a maximum of 1.8, so the stretch arrives slowly instead of all at once. A curve in the neck angles toward the prostate (or the G-spot), and the scaled texture adds sensation as it moves. The 9.2 inches of insertable length is an option, not an obligation: the slim profile lets you choose your depth.
The flared suction base is what makes it anal-safe — it can't travel where it shouldn't — and it mounts hands-free on a smooth surface or rides in a harness. Firm-but-flexible, body-safe silicone; use plenty of water-based lube. $73.95. Starting smaller? Pick 2, the Bellatrix, is 1.5 inches wide with a P-spot curve, and our best prostate massagers guide covers the dedicated P-spot toys.
6. Johnny VixSkin — best strap-on dildo
In a harness, firmness is a feature: a stiffer shaft goes where you aim it. Johnny is Vixen's firm, realistic option — a defined head and ridge, raised veins, a slight curve toward the G-spot or prostate, and realistic testicles above a flat base that seats in an O-ring harness. At 6.5 inches insertable and 1.75 inches wide, it's substantial without being a stunt.
100% body-safe silicone in VixSkin texture, non-porous and boilable; water-based lube only. $139.95. Sharing rather than wearing? The Peacemaker VixSkin is a 13-inch double-ender with a realistic end (6.5" × 1.9") and a slimmer curved end (5" × 1.4"), from $144.95. Harnesses are covered in the strap-on section below.
7. Creature Cocks Orion Invader — best fantasy dildo
Fantasy dildos are the most fun aisle in the store and too often the one made of mystery rubber. Every Creature Cocks dildo we stock is silicone, and the Orion Invader is the easiest place to start: 6 inches insertable, building from 1.3 to 2.3 inches wide, with a ribbed, veiny metallic-purple shaft and a curved tip angled for the G-spot or prostate. The suction cup holds it to a floor, wall or shower tile; the flared base fits a harness. $61.95.
When the alien has done its job, the line goes further: the winged Pegasus Pecker ($83.95) is the whimsical one, the Venom ($105.95) is the thick one at 2.3–2.5 inches, and the Reaper ($100.95) is the big one, with 8 insertable inches up to 2.7 inches wide. All silicone, all in our body-safe fantasy dildos collection.
8. Dr. Julian 9" — best big dildo
Size is a preference, not a promotion — but if you've outgrown the average, Dr. Julian is the honest step up: 9 inches overall, 7.5 insertable, 2 inches wide and 6.25 inches around. The trick is the posable shaft, which bends and holds its angle, so all that length meets your body where it is instead of where the mold left it. Puria platinum-cured silicone (body-safe; phthalate-, latex- and fragrance-free), a suction base that's also harness compatible, and a $55.95 price that's hard to argue with.
Want girth without the length? The Randy VixSkin is short and wide on purpose — 5.75 inches long, 2.25 inches across — from $117.95. Either way: warm up with something smaller, use more lube than seems necessary, and let the widest point arrive on your schedule.
9. Colours Pleasures Vibrating 5" — best vibrating dildo
A vibrating dildo should be a good dildo first and a vibrator second. The Colours Pleasures 5 Inch gets the order right: a realistically molded, satin-finish silicone shaft — 5 inches insertable, 1.5 inches wide — with a rechargeable motor inside, so there are no batteries to buy or to die mid-session. The suction base holds it hands-free, which is where vibration earns its keep: mount it, ride it, and let the motor do what your wrist can't. $63.95.
Want two ends and more settings? The Master Series 10x dual-ended dildo is a silicone crescent with a slim end and a fuller end, 3 speeds and 7 patterns, and IPX7 waterproofing, at $53.95. And if you want the shaft itself to move, skip ahead to thrusting.
Get the Colours Pleasures here.
10. Prisms VibraGlass Pari — best glass dildo
Glass is the most underrated dildo material: completely non-porous, slick with a few drops of lube, and happy to be warmed or cooled under the tap for temperature play. The Pari makes the case twice — one end is wavy borosilicate glass (1.3 inches at its widest), the other is wavy silicone (1.5 inches), and both carry the same 3 speeds and 7 vibration patterns, which feel different through glass than through silicone. The ripples do the work as you rock it, so penetration feels fuller with less effort. 8 inches overall, USB rechargeable, $75.95; it has a silicone end, so stick to water-based lube.
Prefer smooth to wavy? The VibraGlass Rose keeps both ends a slim 1 inch — a gentle introduction to glass — at $78.95, and the VibraGlass Bleu adds a G-spot curve with a rounded bulb tip, at $94.95. The glass rule: inspect it before every use and retire it at the first chip or crack.
Want more to compare? The full dildos collection has the rest of the shelf, the realistic dildos live in their own aisle, and every VixSkin model is in the VixSkin by Vixen Creations collection.
Want it to move? Vibrating and thrusting dildos
Picks 1 through 8 are manual: you supply the motion. If you'd rather the toy did, there are two upgrades. Vibration adds buzz without changing the shape — that's picks 9 and 10, and the rabbits in our best rabbit vibrators guide add a clitoral arm on top. Thrusting is the bigger leap: a shaft that physically travels in and out on its own. Our best thrusting dildos guide ranks six, led by the Master Series 8X Auto Pounder — a realistic, handle-driven silicone dildo with a genuine 1-inch stroke, 3 thrust speeds and 8 vibration modes, from $126.95.
How to choose a dildo (and get the size right)
Start with width, not length. The widest point decides comfort far more than length does, because you control depth but not girth. For reference, a review of measurements from more than 15,000 men published in BJU International (Veale et al., 2015) put the average erect penis at about 5.2 inches long and 4.6 inches around — roughly 1.5 inches across. That makes 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide a sensible first size, and it means a “7-inch” dildo is already longer than average. Our starter-friendly picks sit right there: the Bellatrix and the Tex at 1.5 inches, the Mustang at 1.6.
Know which number you're reading. Brands mix diameter (width across) and circumference (distance around). Diameter × 3.14 = circumference, so Dr. Julian's 2-inch width and 6.25-inch circumference are the same measurement told two ways. Size up a quarter-inch of width at a time, not a full inch.
Pick a shape for a target. A straight shaft is about fullness; a curve aims pressure at the front wall (the G-spot) or, used anally, the prostate — that's the job of picks 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Texture — veins, ridges, scales — adds sensation on every stroke; smooth surfaces are easier for beginners and easier to clean.
Choose firmness on purpose. Firm dildos give precise pressure and steer well in a harness; dual-density ones add the give of skin; a posable shaft (pick 8) lets you set the angle yourself.
Never compromise on the base. A suction cup mounts on smooth, non-porous surfaces — tile, glass, a smooth bathtub wall — for hands-free riding. A flat or flared base lets the dildo stand, sit in a harness and stay safely outside the body. For anal, a flared base isn't optional.
Strap-on and pegging: which dildos fit a harness
Seven of our ten picks — 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 — are made to fit an O-ring harness: the flared base is wider than the ring, so the dildo can't slip through. For first-time pegging, go smaller than your instinct says. A slim, curved dildo like the Bellatrix (1.5") or the King Cobra (1.3"–1.8") aims at the prostate without a big stretch, and the Johnny VixSkin is the realistic step up.
For the harness itself, the Strap-On-Me Curious Leatherette Harness ($68.95) ships with two belts, XS–M and L–XXL, and a stretchy double silicone O-ring that holds most flared-base dildos. The Sportsheets Ultra Thigh Strap On ($43.95) moves the action to a thigh, an arm or a pillow with a reinforced 1.75-inch O-ring. Prefer no harness at all? The Evolved 2 Become 1 strapless dildo holds itself in place with a wearable bulb and adds clitoral air suction for the wearer, all on a remote, at $159.95. The full range is in strap-ons and harnesses.
Using a dildo for anal: the rules
The anus doesn't lubricate itself, and it doesn't give things back without a flared base — those two facts write every rule. Flared base or a rigid handle, always: every harness-ready pick in this guide qualifies, and the King Cobra and the Bellatrix are shaped for it. Lube generously — water-based with silicone, anything with steel or glass — and reapply. Start slimmer than you think, warm up first, and let the widest point pass at your pace; pain means stop, not push. Never go from anal to vaginal without washing the toy or changing the condom on it. For toys built only for the back door, see our best butt plugs guide and the anal toys collection.
Care and cleaning
Wash every dildo before its first use and after every use: warm water and mild soap, or a toy cleaner — JO Refresh ($15.95) is a fragrance-free foam that's safe on silicone, steel and glass. It cleans thoroughly but doesn't sterilize, so for a deeper clean, silicone its maker rates as boilable — the VixSkin picks and the Bellatrix — can be boiled for a few minutes, and steel and glass can be properly sanitized. Check glass for chips every time. Keep silicone on water-based lube; steel and glass take anything. Dry fully, store each toy separately in a pouch or box away from heat and sunlight, and when toys are shared between partners, wash them in between or use a fresh condom — our guide to using condoms with sex toys explains when it matters.
FAQs
What is the best dildo?
For most people, the Mustang VixSkin: realistic, dual-density platinum silicone, a slim 1.6-inch width that suits beginners and veterans alike, a suction cup plus a harness-compatible base, and a lifetime warranty. If you already know your target, the best dildo is the one built for it — the njoy Pure Wand for the G-spot, the King Cobra for anal, the Bellatrix for a first try.
What is the best dildo for beginners?
Something body-safe, about 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide and 5 to 6 inches insertable, with a flared or suction base. The Temptasia Bellatrix (5.5" × 1.5", $23.95) is our pick; the Tex VixSkin (5.25" long, 1.5" wide) is the premium version, and the Mustang (1.6" wide) is the realistic one you won't outgrow quickly.
What size dildo should I get?
Choose by width first — it decides comfort far more than length, because you control depth but not girth. The average erect penis measures about 5.2 inches long and 4.6 inches around (roughly 1.5 inches across), according to a 2015 review of measurements from more than 15,000 men, so 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide is a sensible first size. Size up a quarter-inch of width at a time. If a brand lists circumference instead, divide it by 3.14 to get the width.
What is the safest material for a dildo?
Non-porous materials: platinum or body-safe silicone, stainless steel and borosilicate glass. They clean completely and leave bacteria nowhere to hide. Avoid TPE, TPR, PVC and “jelly” toys — they're porous, can't be fully sanitized, and some soft plastics have contained phthalates. If a listing won't name its material, skip it.
What does dual-density mean?
A dual-density dildo is poured in two layers: a firmer core for structure and control, and a softer outer layer that gives under pressure the way skin does. It's how body-safe silicone gets close to the feel of the real thing. Vixen Creations' VixSkin (our top pick, the Mustang) and the Colours Dual Density 8" both use it.
What is the best dildo for G-spot stimulation?
A firm, curved one. The G-spot area sits a couple of inches inside, on the front wall, and responds to steady pressure more than depth — which is exactly what the njoy Pure Wand's weighted steel curve delivers. Curved silicone options: the Bellatrix, the Johnny VixSkin and the Orion Invader.
What is the best dildo for men?
For prostate play, a slim, curved dildo with a flared base: the King Cobra (1.3" to 1.8" wide, curved neck) or the Bellatrix (1.5", $23.95). The prostate sits a few inches inside, toward the belly, so the curve matters more than the size. For toys designed only for the P-spot, see our best prostate massagers guide.
Can you use a dildo for anal?
Yes — if it has a flared base (or a long, rigid handle you keep hold of), you use plenty of lube, and you go slowly. Never use anything without a base anally. Wash the toy, or change the condom on it, before switching from anal to vaginal play.
Can I use silicone lube with a silicone dildo?
Use water-based lube as the default. Silicone lube can degrade some silicone toys, and Vixen specifies water-based lube only for VixSkin. Stainless steel and glass are compatible with any lube.
How do you use a dildo?
Start warmed up and well lubricated, go in slowly at whatever angle feels good, and let your body set the pace — shallow, steady strokes first, depth later. A suction cup on a smooth wall, floor or shower tile frees your hands for riding; a harness turns it into partner play. For ideas, here are 10 positions to try with a VixSkin dildo.
How do you clean a dildo?
Before the first use and after every use: warm water with mild soap or a toy cleaner, then dry it fully. Silicone its maker rates as boilable (the VixSkin picks and the Bellatrix) can be boiled for a few minutes for a deeper clean; steel and glass can be sanitized. Store each toy separately, away from heat and sunlight.
