Women Rocking the Sex Toy Industry

Natali Greco |

The sex toy industry is a thriving market, with an estimated global worth of over $30 billion. However, for a long time, it was dominated by men, both in terms of ownership and the products themselves. In recent years, however, there has been a rise in women-owned businesses in the sex toy industry, bringing a new perspective and innovative products to the market.

One of the most successful women-owned businesses in the sex toy industry is Dame Products. Founded in 2014 by Alexandra Fine and Janet Lieberman, Dame Products is a New York-based company that produces high-quality sex toys designed with women's pleasure in mind. Their products, which include vibrators, couples' toys, and accessories, are designed to be inclusive, body-positive, and easy to use.

One of their bestselling products being, Eva. There's nothing like it in the industry. Eva is a clitoris stimulating vibrator designed to stay in place on its own and therefore, can be used both before and during penetrative intercourse. Another of their most popular toys is Pom -- "a flexible, low profile vibe that puts play in the palm of your hand" due to its flexibility and vibrational patterns.

Another notable women-owned business in the sex toy industry is Unbound. Founded in 2014 by Polly Rodriguez, Unbound is a company that aims to break down the stigma surrounding sex toys and empower women to explore their sexuality. Their products, which include vibrators, lubricants, and BDSM gear, are designed to be both fun and educational. Their prices range from as low as $48 for a vibrator to $100 for the more intricate dildo's and rabbit vibrators. What really sets them apart, however, is that they've thought of everything a woman could possibly need. Their inventory not only includes sex toys, but also all the accessories you don't realize you need until after the math. For instance, they have thee cutest storage bags for all your sex toys, cute clothing articles, universal chargers for their toys, and satin toy bags to wrap each toy individually.

In addition to these larger companies, there are also a number of smaller women-owned businesses in the sex toy industry that are making a big impact. For example, there's Funkit Toys, founded by Kenton and Maggie, a couple who design and make their own sex toys. Their products are unique, colorful, and affordable, making them accessible to people of all genders and sexualities. The Valentine Swat, for example, is a soft paddle with ridges that can be used by both men and women. It comes in funky colors and is body-safe. The best part about Funkit Toys? They customize! If you don't see exactly what you're looking for, they're more than happy to create a personalized sex toy for you.

The rise of women-owned businesses in the sex toy industry is an exciting development, as it brings a new perspective and a more inclusive approach to the market. By designing products with women's pleasure in mind, these companies are helping to break down the stigma surrounding sex toys and are empowering people to explore their sexuality. As the industry continues to evolve, we can expect to see more innovative and inclusive products from women-owned businesses in the sex toy industry, as well as (hopefully) more women feeling empowered by their sexuality and use of sex toys as well as an increase in open communication surrounding sex, sex toys, and everything in between!

Make sure to support a woman-owned business (or a few) near you before this month ends as we continue celebrating Women's History Month!
